Saving Power Across Africa — One Factor at a Time.

Beer with Too Much FoamNow imagine ordering a beer.
You pay for a full glass, but when it arrives, half of it is foam. You didn’t ask for foam, you can’t drink it, but you still paid for it.
That foam is like reactive power.
It takes up space, creates losses, and adds cost — but it does no useful work.
Power factor correction is like removing the foam, so the glass is filled with actual beer. You still get the same service, but now you’re only paying for what you can actually use. What This Means for Your Business
Many businesses are unknowingly paying for:Extra electrical effort
Higher demand charges
Power factor penalties
Energy that never does useful workPower factor correction finds that hidden waste and removes it, turning lost effort into real savings.
That’s why power factor is often called the lost art of energy saving — because once it’s corrected, businesses often save money without changing how they operate at all.

Power Factor Correction
In inductive electrical systems, reactive power (kVAr) increases current flow without contributing to real work (kW). This results in a lower power factor, higher apparent power (kVA), increased I²R losses, voltage drop, and utility penalties or elevated demand charges.
Power factor correction introduces capacitive reactive power locally to offset inductive loads, reducing reactive current drawn from the supply. By improving the power factor toward unity, system current is reduced for the same real power demand, freeing network capacity, improving voltage regulation, lowering losses, and reducing utility billing based on kVA or power factor penalties.
Power factor correction panels, whether fixed or automatic, are applied based on load profile and harmonic conditions to ensure stable correction without overcompensation.

African Power Factor is a specialist power factor correction and power quality division of the Tri Matla Group, combining focused technical expertise with the strength and support of an established engineering group. With over 30 years of combined experience in power factor correction, our team has serviced numerous industrial and commercial customers across a wide range of electrical environments. Over this time, we have built a proven track record of delivering reliable, measurable improvements in power factor, demand reduction, and energy cost savings. We understand how poor power factor silently increases kVA demand, utility penalties, and energy losses — and how to correct it effectively, safely, and sustainably. Our approach is practical, data‑driven, and results‑focused. Every project starts with accurate measurement and analysis using best‑in‑class power quality analyzers, allowing us to fully understand load behaviour, demand profiles, reactive power requirements, and system constraints. We do not apply generic solutions — each system is assessed and engineered to suit its real operating conditions.Phone: (011) 568-4452
